Manufacturing and process of automotive exterior parts

Injection molding is the mainstream manufacturing process for exterior parts, widely used in the production of components such as bumpers and grilles. Currently, commonly used materials for automotive exterior parts include PP, ABS, ASA, POM, PA, PC, and PE.

 

Before mass production, exterior parts need to undergo trial production and verification. The purposes include appearance review, dimensional matching verification, and assembly with a prototype vehicle. Common trial production processes include 3D printing, CNC prototyping, silicone molds, and resin molds.

 

Key control points in exterior part manufacturing include: raw material quality, master mold accuracy, mold type and accuracy, part inspection, and surface treatment.

 

In the processing stage, industrial robots are used for cutting, drilling, and deburring of exterior parts to achieve automated production. Painting is an important surface treatment process for exterior parts, with stringent requirements. Using robotic painting lines and electrostatic rotary cup systems can significantly improve painting efficiency, consistency, and first-pass yield.
