What is the function of a car's front grille?

Jun 04, 2026

The functions of a car's front grille are:

1. To allow the engine to reach its optimal operating temperature in a shorter time;

2. To allow the engine to warm up and deliver heat to the engine compartment more quickly in winter;

3. To reduce wind resistance while driving, thereby improving the car's stability and fuel economy.

The main functions of the front grille are heat dissipation and air intake. If the engine radiator temperature is too high and natural air intake alone cannot dissipate the heat sufficiently, the fan will automatically start to assist in cooling. When the car is moving, the air flows backward, and the fan's airflow direction is also backward. The heated airflow, after cooling, flows backward from the rear of the hood near the windshield and from under the car (where the bottom is open), thus releasing the heat.
